MUSIC OWL AWARDS: 4th – music; 2nd – performance
When I went: 23 October 2014
Location: The O2, London
Performers: Lady Gaga, Lady Starlight (support act)
Creative team: Haus of Gaga
Approximate price: £80
Special points: Virtuoso performance
Best bit: Dope
If I could change one thing: Better support act
Lady Gaga is one of the biggest pop acts in the world for a reason. She is able to sing with power, technical brilliance and raw emotion; she can play the piano; she can dance; she can write brilliant songs; she loves fashion and to push fashion boundaries; and she is a true all-round musician who loves to explore different genres.
While her support act wasn’t really memorable, the whole of her own set was. From the performances reaching into the middle of the standing area of the O2, to the crazy, jerky dance routines, to the amazing costumes and huge vocals, the whole thing was brilliant. Gaga is also not afraid to be vulnerable onstage and discussed her own mental health issues and feelings with a supportive audience. It was one of those gigs that justifies an artist’s fame and record sales and makes you hungry for more.
